There is a European paradox: in a context of massive unemployment, the virtues of social dialogue in the firm are recognized, but the rate of unionization is still declining and unions play a limited role in the ongoing labor market reforms. This workshop presents European case studies on the place of unions today through two main topics. Which forms of collective bargaining and social dialogue have been adopted during the recession? What are the impacts of state labor market protection (collective bargaining extensions, minimum wage) on the levels of wages and employment?
